THE CHALLENGE

Fulwood Lawn Tennis Club had outdated floodlights. With the help of Chamber Low Carbon providing a grant they upgraded to LED. The project represents a substantial electricity saving, reducing their carbon footprint through investment in a long term, more cost effective and energy efficient solution, in line with environment strategy.

THE RESULT

GGM Groundscare Managing Director Chris Gibson found out about the CLC programme through an emailer campaign and made contact as he has always been committed to reducing our impact on the environment and if there were other things available then this is something of huge interest. We didn’t really know what support we needed and relied upon Chris and Darren from CLC to advise us accordingly.

THE SOLUTION

The CLC programme carried out an energy and environmental audit which commenced in May 2020, followed up with analysis of GGM’s energy and environmental performance with suggestion and recommendations provided. The review was carried out by Christopher Gibbons and Darren Thomas from CLC and Chris Gibson and Heather Knight at GGM Groundscare.

The company already had environmental policies in place and the review highlighted other changes and improvements that could be made across all areas of the business. Communication throughout the process which was during the Pandemic was excellent on both sides which resulted in a quick turnaround in producing the suggestions report which GGM Groundscare acted fast upon and implemented a number of the recommendations within 3 months

THE SOLUTION

‘The CLC Programme has really helped propel us forward with our sustainability objectives and many of the suggestions have been implemented and we will continue to implement new processes where we can. We would very much recommend the scheme to other businesses as it has been a real eye opener, offering many benefits.’ Initial savings from introducing a fleet of electric vehicles is estimated at 30 tonnes of carbon in the first year and GGM are on track with their aim to be carbon neutral by 2030.
